Washington, DC — Streetcar Movement Coming

The first opportunities to see streetcars running in DC under their own power since 1962 could be in the offing. As soon as March, 2013, the three Czech-built cars owned by dDOT could be completing test runs in Anacostia. By fall they could be under test on H Street.

All this is based on the latest construction schedule published by dDOT.

In March, track at either end of the H Street/Benning Road connection should be under construction. Poles for trolley wire will be installed in the spring and summer, followed by installation of the wires in the August to October time period.

The planned carbarn at the eastern end of the corridor is being redesigned based on community input. Service could begin even if the carbarn is not complete.
