Arlington Video Released
Arlington County in northern Virginia west of the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., has released a new video promoting its vision for a modern streetcar line., the "arlington now" site reports. Arlington and Fairfax counties are joining to build a five-mile route along busy Columbia Pike to link Pentagon City and a Metrorail rapid transit stop with the Skyline area to the west. That line would be linked from Pentagon City to another streetcar route south to Crystal City and Potomac Yard. They would be operated as a through route for a one-seat ride: http://tinyurl.com/8vubdnl
District Orders Third Streetcar
The Washington Business Journal reports that the District Department of Transportation has added a third streetcar to the order placed earlier with Oregon Iron Works for cars similar to the three Czech cars the district now owns. The order was placed in spite of reports that the Oregon firm is way behind on delivering cars to Portland and Tucson.
The order was placed by using an option in Portland's contract with the firm. The two cars ordered in April cost $8.7 million. The price for the third car is $2.9 million, and delivery is promised by December 2013.
DDOT announed that Oregon Iron Works promised the vehicles would be delivered on schedule, which calls for the first two to come in August 2013 followed by the third in December. |
