Tampa — Streetcar Start-up
Rail Transit Online, September 2002
The
weekend of Oct. 19-20 has been set for opening ceremonies of the 2.3-mi. (3.7
km) TECO Line Streetcar System. Plans call for initially running the
air-conditioned replica Birney Safety Cars on 22-min. headways seven days a
week, with expanded weekend service. The eight heritage trolleys were supplied
by Gomaco and are similar to those operated in Tampa until 1946. Naming rights
to the line, which links downtown Tampa with historic Ybor City, have been sold
to TECO Energy. |
