Tacoma — Streetcars Arrive

Three Czech-made Astra streetcars purchased for the 1.6-mi. (2.57 km) Tacoma Link downtown circulator were scheduled to arrive by ship at the Port of Tacoma on Sept. 1 after a virtually trouble-free five-week voyage from Europe via the Panama Canal.  Sound Transit is planning a press event as the cars are lifted from the ship's hold and lowered onto over-sized flatbed trucks that will transport them to the Maintenance and Operations Base near the Tacoma Dome Station.  Tacoma Link is scheduled to open in September 2003.
