San Antonio — Editorial Backs Streetcar

In an editorial the San Antonio Express-News dismisses critics of a proposed streetcar network and suggests if they want a referendum, every highway project should be subject to one too. The editorial says VIA Metropolitan Transit should just get on with construction of streetcar lines.

Candidates for the Bexar County judge, the head position in the country government, are taking changing positions on the streetcar during their campaign. None has come out as a strong supporter of the controversial project, though some had taken major supporting steps in the past.

The editorial's position is that the case for the streetcar is straightforward and should be embraced by all candidates, and urges them to do so.
