Salt Lake City, UT — Streetcar Plan Approved
Rail Transit Online, August 2008
The city council on July 22 unanimously approved a resolution to move ahead with the Sugar House Transit Corridor, a two-mile (3.2 km) streetcar line from the TRAX Central Pointe light rail station to near Highland Drive in
downtown Sugar House. The route will follow an abandoned railroad right-of-way already owned by UTA running close to 2300 South.
The $9.8-million, six-station project will include bicycle and pedestrian paths and will be funded
by the Utah Transit Authority, Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake. Estimated daily ridership is 2,264, slightly more than a light rail extension but significantly higher than bus rapid transit.
