Salt Lake City, UT — Sugarhouse Streetcar
Rail Transit Online, October 2007
Preliminary results of an alternatives analysis on a rail connection to the Sugar House commercial district show a modern streetcar system is preferred by residents over light rail, vintage trolleys and various bus options. The six-station project would cost an estimated $36 million and would use an abandoned railroad right-of-way, now owned by UTA, running about two miles (3.2 km) from the TRAX Central Pointe light rail station to near Highland Drive in downtown Sugar House. A final draft of the study, conducted by consultants Fehr and Peers, is scheduled for release in October.
