Sacramento — Estimated Costs Soar

The Sacramento Bee reports that planners working on the proposed Sacramento streetcar were greatly surprised when all three construction bids came in way over the project's budget. The lowest bid was $184 million, well above the budgeted $76 million. This threatens the viability of the project as no source of the additional funding is readily available. However, local leaders vowed to press ahead and find a way to control costs and/or find additional funding.
