Miami — Miami Beach Link Proposed Again

Miami Beach, which last had streetcar service in 1939 across MacArthur Causeway, could be linked again by rail with Miami under a proposed LRT or streetcar route and its construction cost now is estimated at $532 million with annual operating costs of $22 million, local government leaders were told. Efforts now will be made to secure funding, the Miami Herald reported.

The route being considered would connect Government Center in downtown to the Miami Beach Convention Center via the Causeway.

The mayors of both Miami and Miami Beach are strong backers of the project and promised to work together to find funding.
