Little Rock — Streetcar Construction
Rail Transit Online, August 2002
The Central Arkansas Transit Authority (CATA) has
accepted bids for modification of the Main Street Bridge over the Arkansas
River to allow installation of tracks and catenary for the River Rail
streetcar line. The project was finally able to get underway after CATA)
and the state Highway and Transportation Department, which owns the bridge,
signed an accord last May on a usage agreement and how to adapt the
structure for trolleys. Bid packages for track and traction power supply
are scheduled to be released this fall for the 2.2-mile (3.54 km),
$18.35-million line that will be operated by replica vintage streetcars from
Gomaco. |
