Little Rock — Double Delivery

Gomaco Trolley Co. has handed over the second and third replica Birney cars ordered by the Central Arkansas Transit Authority for the 2.5-mi. (4 km) River Rail streetcar line.  No. 409 arrived by trailer on Aug. 14 and No. 410 came to town on Aug. 20.  No. 408 was delivered last February.  “Our contractor is making great progress on the trackwork, and our three cars are in our trolley barn,” said CATA Executive Director Keith Jones.  CATA is negotiating an eight-month lease with the Charlotte Area Transit System for two of the cars (see story above).  CATA would need them back by next Aug. 30, a month ahead of River Rail’s planned Oct. 1 start-up date.
