Cincinnati — Streetcar Route Selected
Rail Transit Online, September 2010
The last remaining route segment for the Cincinnati streetcar — between downtown and uptown — has been selected, clearing the way for final design and construction. The tracks will be installed along Vine Street which, according to a comprehensive
analysis, is less expensive by $20 million and presents fewer engineering challenges than the other candidate, West Clifton Avenue.
"Our direction from City Council has always been to 'connect the dots' but to do so in a way that was fiscally responsible," said City
Manager Milton Dohoney. "The Vine Street route accomplishes that."
The approximately six-mile (9.65 km), $128-million project will connect the downtown riverfront with the uptown area near the University of Cincinnati.
