Boise — Trolley Study
Rail Transit Online, March 2009
The Boise city council may be ready to approve a downtown streetcar plan by this fall, according to a letter recently sent to downtown property owners and other stakeholders. The proposal, which would include a new tax assessment district to help pay for the project incorporating 1,200 properties, will depend upon the outcome of a feasibility study that's now underway.
If the council votes to move ahead, preliminary design would begin and
streetcars could be ordered before the end of next winter. An aggressive construction schedule projected by Mayor Dave Bieter calls for work to start in the summer of 2010 followed by revenue service in the fall of 2011.
The tentative route would be a loop on Main and Idaho streets between 16th Street and Broadway, 16 blocks in each direction. It would have an estimated capital cost of between $50 million and $65 million.
