Tucson — First Streetcar Arrives
August 2013
The first of eight long-delayed modern streetcars ordered by Tucson from United Streetcar LLC arrived in the city on August 30 around 4:00 am, was unloaded from the special rail-equipped trailer on which it travelled from Portland, and was moved into the new carhouse. KVOA television had a photographer present who took the above shots.
Seven more cars are included in the order, making a total of eight cars for Tucson. Each streetcar is scheduled to be delivered four weeks apart.
The initial car will be tested inside the maintenance and storage facility for the next several weeks.
Then the car will be tested along the tracks at night, starting the second week of September; with the second car arriving in October.
Officials hope to open the streetcar line by summer of 2014. |
