San Francisco – Suasalito Streetcar Not Feasible
Rail Transit Online – March 2009
A six-mile (9.65 km) streetcar line between the ferry terminal in Sausalito and Mill Valley would not attract sufficient ridership to justify the estimated capital cost of $60 million to $90 million, a figure that doesn't include
rolling stock.
A $15,000 feasibility study conducted by HDR Consultants found a population too small to support public transportation, a situation unlikely to change because
the area is experiencing little growth.
The cost of the study was shared by the cities of Sausalito and Mill Valley and the Transportation Authority of Marin County. |
