New Orleans — Canal Cemeteries Expansion On Track
September 2017
The Times-Picayune on its website reports that the cemeteries extension of the Regional Transit Authority [RTA] Canal Streetcar Line is on schedule for construction.
The complex intersection through which this extension runs has been closed since July but officials say work should be complete on schedule in November. Excavation has been completed without major surprises, and track laying is about to begin.
Officials say the goal of the project is to reduce danger for pedestrians who routinely cross the busy Canal-City Park intersection, and to make the streetcar connection with Jefferson Transit bus service much easier and safer.
Total cost of the project is $9.8 million. |
