Dallas — Oak Cliff Streetcar EA Released
Rail Transit Online, June 2011
The Environmental Assessment for the proposed Oak Cliff streetcar was released on May 24 for a 30-day public comment period. According to Keith Manoy, project manager for the City of Dallas, there were "no surprises" and the 1.6-mi. (2.6 km) line can be built as planned between Union Station and the
intersection of Beckley and Colorado in Oak Cliff. 'There are no right-of-way takes, and we won't be causing harm to adjacent property owners," Manoy told the Dallas Observer.
The EA also found that the Houston Street Viaduct will be able to handle the weight of streetcars once repairs are made and there
will be no damage to its "historic integrity."
The streetcar's capital cost is estimated at $38.8 million, $23 million of which will come from federal economic stimulus funds. A public hearing on the EA is scheduled for June 6.
