Dallas — Brookville Selected

March 2013

Railway Gazette International reports that Dallas Area Rapid Transit has selected Brookville Equipment Corp to supply two off-wire capable light rail vehicles for use on the Union Station - Oak Cliff extension. The $9.4 million contract signed on February 26 includes an option for two additional vehicles.

The three-section Brookville Liberty Modern Streetcars will be 70% low floor, 20.3 m long and 2.4 m wide, with a maximum speed of 70 km/h. They will be equipped with battery storage to power the four 99 kW AC traction motors when off-wire, and will use this on the 1.6 km Houston Street Viaduct over the Trinity River.

The 2.6 km, four-stop Oak Cliff extension is due for completion in late 2014. Funding for the project includes a $23 million TIGER grant, and other grants totalling $33.8 million.
