Dallas — Brookville May Get Order
September 2012
Indications from Texas are that the Dallas Area Rapid Transit may select Brookville Equipment Corp. to provide two modern streetcars for the proposed Oak Cliff streetcar project. DART's Board of Directors may make the decision sometime this month. Preliminary approval by a DART oversight committee for a contract totaling about $9.4 million may occur this week.
If Brookville does win the order, it will be their first for the 100% new Liberty product, which they have been offering for several years. Two foreign firms, Inekon of the Czech Republic, and the American subsidiary of Spain's CAF also bid on the Dallas project.
Brookville, located in Brookville, PA, has built or rebuilt streetcars for Philadelphia, New Orleans, and San Francisco, and is a long time supplier to the mining industry.
The DART board may also approve a $28 million design-build contract for the line with a consortium including Stacey and Witbeck plus CARCON Industries and Construction.
