St. Louis — Heritage Cars from Portland

December 2013

The project team working on the Loop Trolley heritage streetcar line in St. Louis has spent considerable time studying cost-effective ways to acquire streetcars for the project.

In August, according to www.progressiverailroading.com, the team approached Portland's TriMet to investigate availability of the Gomaco-built replicas of Portland Council Crest streetcars. The system has four of the cars which recently have only been used on about eight Sundays a year, after previously operating regularly on the downtown part of the light rail system and later on the Portland Streetcar's initial line.

In December TriMet's board voted to make two of the cars availalbe to St. Louis. The recipients will pay to move the cars to St. Louis and will pay $80,000 to TriMet to repay the remiaining local interest share of their original acquisition cost.
