Cincinnati ― Funding for Streetcar Advances
Cincinnati's City Council voted in late July to move $3.1 million in funding into an account accessible for streetcar expenses and to devote funds from sale of an airport also to support the project.
According to Cincinnati.com moving money from the 2006 sale of 130 acres to the city of Blue Ash was challenged by the Federal Aviation Administration. The city would like to use proceeds from this sale to cover repayment of $11 million in bonds for the streetcar. However, by revising the sale terms the city was able to bypass the FAA objections.
By fall the city hopes to request bids for construction of the streetcar track, to support the goal of operating the line by late 2014.
