New Orleans — AECOM Awarded Streetcar Contract

Rail Transit Online, December 2011

A $10.6-million contract for the second phase of the New Orleans streetcar expansion project has been awarded to AECOM Technology Corp.

The company will prepare final design documents for the Rampart/St. Claude corridor. AECOM also will provide two environmental assessments for proposed future extensions of the St. Claude line from Elysian Fields Avenue to Poland Avenue and for an extension on Howard Avenue of the Loyola Line from Loyola Avenue to Carondelet Street. "AECOM has been involved with the streetcar program since the early master planning stage and played a significant role in the 2002 New Orleans Streetcar Extension on Canal Street," according to a statement released by the company.

The design of the Loyola Line started in January 2011 and construction is scheduled for completion during 2012. The second phase of the Rampart/St. Claude project is scheduled for completion during Aug. 2014.
