New Orleans — Project Recap

October 2015

A recap of New Orleans transit projects published on the nola.com site includes latest status of two streetcar projects:

Canal Street Terminal

A new inter-modal terminal to ease connection between streetcars and Jefferson and Orleans parish buses where Canal Street and Canal Boulevard meet City Park Avenue at the outer end of the Canal Street line is looking for a builder. Transdev vice president Justin Augustine said he gave final approval on the bid package for this facility.

The project may include a redesign of that intersection, which is known to be dangerous for pedestrians.

Rampart-St. Claude streetcar line

Unlike the much-delayed Loyola Project, construction of the new streetcar line down North Rampart and St. Claude Avenue is on schedule for completion in the third quarter of 2016.

Construction has been underway on the 1.6-mile route since January and is currently estimated to cost $40.5 million, down from an earlier $41.2 estimate due to some design changes.
