Dallas — Groundbreaking Held
On May 3 a groundbreaking ceremony was held to signify the beginning of construction for the 1.6 mile, $48.6 million streetcar line from Dallas to Oak Cliff according to a news item from the local CBS affiliate.
Asphalt paving has been scraped off one lane of the Houston Street Viaduct, exposing concrete and dirt. Construction of the downtown-to-Oak Cliff streetcar line is moving right along, predating the groundbreaking ceremony by two months.
The $80-million dollar project is funded mostly with federal stimulus dollars. The first rails should be in place by summer 2013. The first phase is scheduled to open in October of 2014, follwed by the second phase several months later.
